Rendering Courtesy Call

Cadets are expected to be familiar with the etiquette of rendering a courtesy call. It is best to remember that necessary calls should always be made if time and circumstances permit to show respect and establish working relationships. Courtesy calls are made to pay respect to officials of higher rank or to establish official and social contacts with public officials, individuals, and social groups. In the latter case, rank need not necessarily be considered.

A courtesy call to the nearest Philippine National Police (PNP) unit or office chief upon arrival at a destination is an important step in maintaining good relations between the police and the community. It is a way for individuals to introduce themselves and inform the local police of their presence in the area. In this essay, I will discuss the importance of making a courtesy call, the steps to take when making a call, and the benefits it can bring to the community and the police force. When making a courtesy call, it is important to be prepared and organized. This means having all the relevant information, such as the purpose of the visit and the length of stay, as well as contact information. It is also important to be respectful and courteous when speaking with the PNP unit or office chief. The purpose of the call should be clearly communicated, whether it is to inform the police of one's presence in the area, seek advice on safety concerns, or to establish a relationship with the local police.


The Provincial Director of Cavite made it plain during our courtesy call why we were staying outside the academy and at the allocated police stations for each of us. In order to better match it with a specific purpose or set of objectives that we must learn during Station Immersion, PCOL Olazo also realigned the Police Stations to which we were assigned. Additionally, he guaranteed that the Chiefs of Police from various stations would be able to assist us and gave us the assurance that learning and teaching go hand in hand. The purpose of the courtesy call is not only to inform the local police of one's presence but also to establish a relationship with them. By letting the local police know that one is present in the area, they can better understand the community and its concerns, and respond to them appropriately. This can lead to greater cooperation and trust between the community and the police, which can in turn lead to better public safety and security.

A courtesy call can also provide an opportunity for the individual to learn about the local area and any potential safety concerns. The PNP unit or office chief may be able to provide information about local crime trends, and suggest ways to stay safe while in the area. This can help individuals to take precautions and avoid dangerous situations, which can contribute to a safer community. Furthermore, making a courtesy call is a way for the individual to show respect and appreciation for the work of the PNP. It demonstrates that they are aware of the importance of the PNP’s role in maintaining public safety and security. It also shows that the individual is willing to take an active role in keeping the community safe. Aside from the benefits for the individual, making a courtesy call can also bring benefits to the police force. It can help the PNP to better understand the community they serve, and to identify and address any issues that may arise. It also allows the police to establish a relationship with the community, which can improve communication and cooperation. This can lead to a more efficient and effective police force, and can contribute to a safer community.

In order to establish positive ties between the police and the community, it is crucial to pay a courtesy call to the local PNP unit or office head while arriving at a location.

It is a method for people to make introductions, let the neighborhood police know they are there, build relationships, discover more about the region, and express respect and gratitude for the PNP's efforts. People can help make their community safer and more secure by taking the time to make courtesy calls, and they can also assist the PNP in protecting and serving the community more effectively.
