According to PNP Squading Concept Manual Volume 1, PNP, in pursuing the transformation aspect of its strategic direction has been very aggressive in implementing internal cleansing within its ranks. According to the Real Numbers from July 2016 to July 2018, there were 6,401 police officers charged administratively and/or criminally in line with the PNP Internal Cleansing Efforts. With these numbers, the PNP is resolute in its internal cleansing and disciplinary mechanisms which sends a very clear message to all its personnel that every wrongdoing has its corresponding consequences. However, it appears that the current internal cleansing process is only responsive in addressing the “after the fact” issues of police misconduct and misbehavior as it is designed to get rid of or penalize personnel who committed violations of laws or are involved in illegal activities. Hence, the need for a complementary proactive strategy that can prevent the recurring problem of misbehavior and misconduct which are rooted in weak values. Essentially, it promotes a sense of inclusion and engagement among team members. By providing a space for all members to participate in the discussion, SWIM can help to build a sense of belonging and empower individuals to take ownership of their work and contribute to the success of the team.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Squad Weekly Interactive Meeting is a crucial aspect of the PNP's operations and is designed to enhance communication and collaboration between police officers. The meeting provides a platform for officers to share information, discuss challenges, and brainstorm solutions to improve their performance and better serve the public. One of the primary benefits of the PNP Squad Weekly Interactive Meeting is the improvement of information sharing and collaboration between officers. Through the meeting, officers are able to share valuable information and updates on criminal activities in their areas, which can help prevent incidents from taking place. The meeting also provides a platform for officers to discuss their challenges and share best practices, which can lead to more effective and efficient operations.

As the Tagaytay Chief of Police had given me the opportunity to join their meeting, I have observed that SWIM is increased accountability. By having regular check-ins, team members are more likely to stay on track and meet their goals, as they are aware that their progress will be discussed and evaluated in the next SWIM. This helps to ensure that each team member is contributing to the success of the team and that projects are moving forward as planned. It can also serve as a platform for problem-solving and continuous improvement. By having dedicated time to discuss any challenges the team may be facing, members can work together to identify root causes, generate solutions, and make improvements to their processes. This helps to ensure that the team is continually learning and adapting to new challenges and opportunities.

Another benefit of the PNP Squad Weekly Interactive Meeting is the improvement of police-community relations. The meeting allows officers to hear directly from community members about their concerns and needs, which can help the PNP better understand and respond to the needs of the community. This can also help build trust and cooperation between the police and the community, which can lead to more effective crime prevention and resolution. This is also the same with the officers to receive feedback and performance evaluations from their superiors. This can help officers identify areas for improvement and receive guidance on how to better serve the public. Additionally, the meeting can help foster a sense of unity and camaraderie among officers, which can lead to higher morale and improved job satisfaction.
